Researcher Profile
I am a post-doctoral researcher at the CMCC Foundation – Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change. I have an interdisciplinary background in geology and atmospheric sciences, and a PhD in palaeoclimate modelling. This enables me to work across disciplinary boundaries and integrate diverse data types within a coherent physical framework. My research focuses on understanding how regional climate shapes environmental systems, influencing, for example, glacier changes, vegetation patterns, and human activities over time.
During my PhD, I simulated the climate of the Last Glacial Maximum over the European Alps using a high-resolution regional climate model. I subsequently broadened this research to the Holocene and historical period, focusing on regional atmospheric circulation and hydroclimatic conditions. My expertise includes preparing palaeo-initial and boundary conditions, designing and running model experiments, and evaluating simulations against proxy record and observational datasets. I actively collaborate in interdisciplinary teams addressing human–environment interactions, vegetation–climate feedbacks, and atmosphere–cryosphere processes.
Within the EUROpest project, I contribute palaeoclimate modelling expertise by producing high-resolution regional climate simulations to characterise the environmental conditions surrounding past epidemic outbreaks between 1300-1800 CE in Europe. I reconstruct regional-to-local climate patterns and derive climate indicators that can be integrated with cultural, demographic, economic, ecological, and pathogenic information, providing a physically grounded climatic context for understanding epidemic dynamics across Europe.
